Drawn probably by Simon Gribelin. Datable c.1704-10. Implied scale, just over 11 ft to 1 inch. \par \par Precisely drawn with compass and ruling pen, the immaculate ink and shading techniques, the neat ruled pencil under-drawing, and the absence of a scale bar suggest the hand of Simon Gribelin (compare WRE/3/1/12-15 and WRE/3/2/11). The drawing postdates a near-final plan for the western towers of c.1703 which includes a spiral staircase in the peristyle (WRE/6/2/8). It may have been prepared for an unrealised engraving of the completed plan around the time of Trevitt\rquote s view of the building from the north-east in c.1710 (Wren Society 14, pl.42). For a plan of the dome peristyle shortly before the final scheme, see WRE/5/3/4.\cf0\b\f1\par }
