  • Description
Pencil and ink drawing showing a proposed design for the Reredos installed the East End of the Cathedral in 1888. The design is slightly different from the final reredos as it has the word Deo Opt Max above the crucifixion scene instead of Sic Deus Dilexit Mundum. Where there is a panel below the final reredos showing the entombment, the design has this panel unfilled. The figures surmounting the canopy are slightly different. There is a male saint in the niche where the Madonna and child were placed in the final design and the male saint on the left (looking at the reredos) holds a sword rather than a book. The figure of Christ right at the top is also slightly different.
