    Title page reads: 'This book contains the names of sailors and soldiers of the British Empire wounded in the Great War of 1914-1918, who, while lying in Hospital, embroidered an Altar frontal for Saint Paul's Cathedral in memory of their fallen comrades. The design is emblematical of the Sufferings and Triumph of His Majesty's Forces - The Cup for Suffering - The Palms for Triumph. The right hand panel was worked by men from the Dominions of Canada, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa; the rest by men of the United Kingdom.' Hospitals included in the book are: Royal Star and Garter Homes; Royal Navy; Royal Victoria Hospital, Netley; Red Cross Hospital, Netley; Welsh Hospital, Netley; King George Hospital; St Dunstan's Blinded Sailors and Soldiers Hostel; Durris Auxiliary Hospital, Kincardineshire; The Lady George Nevill Hospital; Voluntary Aid Detachment Hospital; Bethnal Green Military Hospital; Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital; Cedar Town Hospital; Highfield Hall Red Cross Hospital, Southampton. The names of 133 men are recorded in the volume.
