    {\rtf1\ansi\ansicpg1252\deff0\deflang2057{\fonttbl{\f0\fswiss\fprq2\fcharset0 Microsoft Sans Serif;}{\f1\fswiss\fprq2\fcharset0 System;}} {\colortbl ;\red0\green0\blue128;} \viewkind4\uc1\pard\cf1\f0\fs20 An unfinished study, corresponding to the part-plan and part-elevation of the transept end-wall in the same hand, WRE/2/4/8 and 10. Drawn by the unidentified draughtsman (fl.1675-c.1687). Datable 1678. Implied scale, just over 4 ft to 1 inch.\par \par This incomplete section, taken through the centre-line in the part-elevation, WRE/2/4/10, shows the reveal of the door recess but not its soffit, which was built in 1683-84 about 6 inches above the tops of the capitals at the front and back of the recess and carved with small rectangular coffers (Wren Society 13, pp.189-90). \par \par The divisions of the reveal are carefully set out on ruled pencil lines marked with divider points on a pencilled baseline. They match those on the part-plan, WRE/2/4/8. Inscribed vertically within the section of the architrave across the lintel of the door (top to bottom and left to right) are the dimensions: \lquote\i 1 : 0\i0\rquote [1 ft 0 inches] for the upper fascia on the inner side; \lquote\i 6\i0\rquote [inches] for the rebate of the door leaves; and to the right, \lquote\i 1 . 6\i0\rquote [1 ft 6 inches], for both dimensions together. In the fabric the architrave was set further out from the external wall and the narrow pilaster behind the frame was enlarged to a half pilaster; see WRE/2/4/12.\cf0\b\f1\par }
