  • [nb-NO]Description[nb-NO]
Pencil and ink drawing showing a design scheme for the vaulting in the roof of the choir and the Apse. The scheme is similar to that proposed in D/3/4. The sketch shows the East End roof, divided into three panels, each panel surrounded by a narrow twisting double border. Between each panel is a thicker border of floral motifs, extending up into a semi-circle at the top. Beyond the apse is a band of similar floral design, followed by a band with flowers in a spiral. This leads into the arch that stands above the (current) High Altar. This is decorated with leaf-like motifs inside squares. Beyond the arch is a double row of flowers inside a spiral and this design reappears to create a border separating the next panel (which runs between two windows along the choir). This takes the form of a central circle, surrounded by 8 rounded trapese shapes. 4 of these (located at the north, south, east and west of the circle) are quite narrow, the other four are wider. On either side of the central circle are two semi-circular shapes, fitting around the window arch. These are composed of a central circle with a rounded triangle on either side. Each separate shape appears to have a narrow border around it although there is no indication as to whether the border would be plain gilding or whether there would be an elaborately carved twisting pattern (as with the apse)
