  • Descripción
Ink and pencil drawing with blue and yellow watercolour washes showing the proposed design of the Bodley and Garner cross for the High Altar. The sketch shows the cross itself. The cross is highly elaborate with the centre, the foot and the tips of the arms all formed from decorative circles, washed in yellow, with flower-like and seed-like decoration. The main body of the cross is less elaborate and washed in blue. The sketch shows guidelines, mostly in the circular terminals to indicate whereabouts the decoration is placed. Below the foot of the cross is a rough sketch showing the way the cross is mounted onto the base. One half of the rough sketch is more developed than the other and shows an angel or cherub reclining on upper curve of the base as well as floral scrolls on the lower part of the base (this base may be the one shown in D/3/8. Surrounding the sketch are pencil sketches of details or alternative plans for certain aspects.
