\viewkind4\uc1\pard\f0\fs17 Photogravure of 'First Reading of the Bible in the Crypt of Old St Paul's Cathedral, London', 1846, from a painting by Sir George Harvey (1806-1876). The portrait depicts a narrative from spring of 1540, soon after Edmund Bonner's installation as Bishop of London while Cromwell was still in power. The Bible, chained to a pillar, is being read aloud by John Porter (thought to have died while imprisoned in Newgate for publicly reading aloud the Bible) to an assemblage of people of all ages and conditions. \par
