Letter from Robert Mylne, Surveyor of the Fabric at St Paul’s, to Charles Rossi concerning the measurements of a monument within St Pauls. In the document, dated 26 December 1801, Mylne request that the artists confine the composition or design of the monument so that it will not project past eight feet from the face of the panel at either the middle part of the dado of the pedestal or at the middle of the prinicpal figure or groups. He requests that the projection of the sevreal mouldings, plinth, and locolo when taken together not project more than 9 inches beyond the eight feet above mentioned. The document states that the stone work of the building is not to be altered or cut into under any circumnstances for ‘weighty reasons’ and that no marble covering by way of field or ground work is to be added where the monument design will not cover the present surface of the panel. Additionally, neither the color or surface of the same panel should be altered. Lastly, Mylne decalres that there will be no fences or railings allowed around any monument. Based on Dugdale’s History of St Pauls 1818, the monument being refrred to in the Nort East Niche is the Monument to Captains Mosse and Riou.
