Drawn by Simon Gribelin. Datable c.1693-94. Implied scale, just under 10 ft to 1 inch (10 ft = 26 mm). \par \par Similar in technique to Gribelin's pencil half-elevation of the west front of c.1686, WRE/3/3/15, this preparatory elevation shows the final scheme for the upper transept front beneath the pediment. Carved ornament was added to the pilasters framing the window when they were built in 1694-95, including the cherubs on the inner pilasters, shown on this drawing (Wren Society, 15, pp.154-55). The elevation complements the side elevation and half-section, WRE/3/2/10, which is datable before 1693, as it shows the main roof several feet lower than built over the choir from January that year. \par \par Comparable details on Gribelin's pencil-drawn elevation of the west front, WRE/6/2/7, are the festoons hung from string-like suspensions, the cherub-head key blocks, and upper capitals and entablature consoles. \cf0\b\f1\par }
