Drawn by the unidentified draughtsman associated with west end and dome (fl. c.1685-91). Datable 1685-86. Implied scale, c. 6 ft to 1 inch.\par \par This study relates closely to one for the internal elevation of the west door and aisle recesses at All Souls (Geraghty 2007, no.87). The narrow, wash-shaded opening on the right (east) side of the recess is a door to the square stairwell in the depth of this wall.\par \par Other drawings attributable to this draughtsman are WRE/3/3/13, WRE/3/4/5-7, 12 and 14, and five studies for the dome (see WRE/5/1). Distinctive traits are the smoothly drawn but inaccurate Corinthian capitals, with lobed or trefoil-shaped leaves and thin abacuses, variable line thicknesses, pencilled diagonals on cornice profiles, and evenly applied grey wash. The drawings are without annotations (compare Hawksmoor\rquote s WRE/3/3/10 and 11). See WRE/3/4/12 for further discussion. \par \par \b Reverse:\b0\par \par A pencil sketch of alternative sections of a roof structure: on the left, a scissor-brace roof in the single pitch; on the right, a king-post truss raised on wall posts. These may be alternatives for the roof structure over the upper chambers above the western chapels, the right-hand version being close to the built structure.\cf0\b\f1\par }
