The contents span a considerable period of time from 1945 to 1969, during which there were three Surveyors. The records provide information on the processes by which essential war repairs were undertaken and the manner in which claims for compensation for the work were made to the War Commission. Files SPCAA/SP/02/01-2 contain reports on post-war reconstruction (01) and from the Clerk of Works office (02). Files 03-19 are mainly concerned with accounts for the whole period. They include claims from the War Damage Commission for compensation monies for reinstatement works on various areas of the building, particularly the North Transept, the roofs and dome, and architects' and contractors' fees. Files 20-26 are files of correspondence and notes dating to the 1960s. These also contain certificates for payments, estimates and accounts, and include the names of many sub-contractors including Big Ben (Scaffolding) Ltd., Engert & Rolffe Ltd., (Asphalte and Roofing); J W Gray & Son Ltd., (church spire restorers and lightning conductor specialists); H H Martyn & Co. Ltd.; Szerelmey Ltd., Ward & Paterson and the Quantity Surveyor, J A Burrell. The main contractor was Messrs Dove Brothers (contract in SP/02/42). In the 1950s yearly schedules detailing specific works were kept (SP/02/44-46). In the 1960s estimates for work were organised into those accepted, rejected or pending and can be found in SP/02/38-39. Later files in the sub-series also include estimates and accounts for specific areas or features of the cathedral including the West Front, the North Transept, windows, baldacchino, ironwork. Individual files include SP/02/52 containing London Weather Centre Reports and SP/02/53 which consists entirely of weighbridge tickets.\par }
