Drawn by Simon Gribelin. Datable c.1686-c.1692. Implied scale, 10 ft to 1 inch. \par \par A door in the basement wall of the bastion has been sketched over the ink drawing in pencil. The south-west bastion has a door in this position but differs in the fenestration of the walls.The ink drawing agrees with the built fabric while the pencil drawing in the upper parts of the aisle and nave does not. Above this level the clerestory window reveals were built with splays and the main roof was set several feet higher above the vaults; it was begun over the choir in January 1693; see WRE/3/1/15 by the same draughtsman.\par \par Closely related to this section is an engraving by Gribelin of the half-section through the south transept and crossing, looking east, which presents the design in c.1694 up to the apex of the roof and the internal entablature of the dome (Wren Society 14, pl.22). A drawing for this engraving, attributable to Gribelin, is at All Souls (Geraghty 2007, no.105).\cf0\b\f1 \par }
