    This sub-series contains drawings relating to preservation works to the dome structure (1913-1934) including piers, bastions, buttresses, arches, pendentives, whispering gallery, peristyle and inner and outer drum. Included are drawings by the Surveyor to the Fabric Sir Mervyn Macartney, the Resident Engineer, the Clerk of Works and various contractors. The subjects of the drawings include excavation of piers, boring and grouting, reinforcement schemes by means of steel ties and chains, methods of bonding masonry, and loading and settlement of piers. The drawings include survey drawings, plans, sections, elevations, diagrams and details, drawings for model, and contractors' drawings.

    Access is strictly by appointment only with the architectural archivist. Material dating from 1990 to the present day is not currently available for public consultation. Some records are subject to a closure period of 75 years under the Data Protection Act.
