This group contains drawings relating to Penrose's work in the crypt. These include designs for marble mosaic pavements in the Wellington and Nelson Chambers, and to the east in the area under the quire and the apse. Some of these designs were unrealised and some, for example the pavement in the Nelson Chamber, are close to but not exactly the same as the existing mosaic pavements. Plans and sections of the crypt show the location of ledgers, the proposed rearrangement of monuments and the location of proposed stowage places. Also included are various sketches and designs for the Wellington sarcophagus ranging from early ideas to elevations that are close to the final design. There is one drawing showing a design for the Chapel of St Christopher and one showing a lavatory for the choir vestry.

Access is strictly by appointment only with the architectural archivist. Material dating from 1990 to the present day is not currently available for public consultation. Some records are subject to a closure period of 75 years under the Data Protection Act.
